September 19 Great flight slight indiscrtionThe Masai Mara is
full of Wildebeest!
Richard Estes our
tame expert proclaimed that he witnessed the most impressive crossing that he
had ever seen. Thats saying something allright.
I will try and paste
some pictures into this message, the last one worked.
Steve and I flew
very close together and came across quite a group preparing to cross, they were
busy knocking down a tented camp on the banks of the Mara
River.
The
Mara River is to our right.
Crossing Paradise Plain
Rewind
a bit to sunrise.

September 09 More famous typesHave recently flown
Shoichi Nakagawa the
Japanese Minister for agriculture and fisheries, that was interesting as he had
bodyguards!
Yesterday I flew a
crew from the 60 minutes show, channel 9 Australia, in particular Tara Brown
here is what their website has to say about her....
From the time
Tara completed her Bachelor of Arts (communication) degree at Bathurst in 1989
she has been in demand as a journalist.
Her first job was in Channel Seven's Sydney newsroom. By June 1992, she had moved to the Nine Network where she worked at NIGHTLINE before joining the team at A CURRENT AFFAIR. ACA is where Tara really shone. Her versatility was her skill. Some reporters investigate, some do human interest, some tackle hard-hitting interviews and others have a deft touch with the light and bright. Very rarely do you find a reporter who can do everything well. As an ACA reporter, Tara did the tough stories; exposed corruption, fought for consumer's rights and reported on political upheavals and international crises. She also reported the stories that made us smile -the quirky characters, human interest and interviews with Hollywood stars. 60 Minutes saw in Tara that rare ability to connect with people. They like her because she likes them. From the lowest to the loftiest she believes everyone is entitled to a fair hearing. As well as A CURRENT AFFAIR, Tara has worked on election specials and hosted TODAY ON SATURDAY. Her talent and her absolute determination to find "and tell" the big stories makes her ideally suited to 60 Minutes. They are here
looking at Wildebeest and went out with Dr Estes and as you know flew with me.
We were lucky to find stacks of the beasts although I don't think the light was
up to much for filming.

September 01 SpekeA top link to our
village hero http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hanning_Speke
Not sure the locals
will agree with all of it though!
-- Lake VictoriaAnd so it came to
pass that I had a day off!!
Deep deep deep
joy.
Better still Tiaan
the Cessna 206 pilot here had a space on a trip to Lake
Victoria.
That means 3 months
to the day I arrived on this stint I got to get out of the Mara for the
day.
It probably sounds
ungrateful, the Mara is a wonderful place and I have a fabulous job but its
almost like being in prision ;-)
Luxury food
everyday, fantastic view from the front of the house.
Anyhow off we flew
to the Lake which growing up with tales of Speke and his discovery that the
source of the Nile was Lake Victoria the place holds a special place in my
head. Speke came from the village I grew up in, Dowlish Wake, Somerset,
England.
I will put some
photos online.
Tiaan and I tryed
our hand at fishing from the jetty and caught nothing. We were however treated
to the calls of fish eagles overhead and white sailed dows passing
by.
The flight there is
very interesting too, lots of different tribes and farming
styles.
